Well, it's the end of an era. And a long one at that. We somehow have managed to keep A contained in her crib for 2 1/2 years. If it weren't for an intruder planning on taking it over in May (her sentiments, I'm sure, not mine), she would probably stay in it until middle school.
So the big girl room project has admittedly been for me, and not her. I'm guilty of giving her what I wish I had. A girly, vintage-inspired, on-a-budget haven for rest. I've already fallen asleep on her bed twice before handing it over to it's rightful tenant. Because we're having another girl and had the blessing of two twin hand-me-downs that my parents stumbled upon at a yard sale, and a make-over dresser from my childhood, we're planning ahead.
All that A's 2 1/2 year old desires included were PINK, but we had a very limited color palate given our walls, which I really wanted to keep neutral, mostly for resale purposes (I really felt like a sell-out in painting her nursery walls pink). Instead, I thought we could compromise with splashes of pink here and there.
Finding bedding (x 2) on a budget was no small feat. While I don't normally believe in any of the hocus-pocus of horoscopes (and usually make fun of people who do), I will say that my fickle Gemini tendencies fit me to a t. I bought, returned, reconsidered, lost sleep over, bought more, returned more bedding from Home Goods that I care to admit, ultimately begging my mom to come be a fresh set of eyes half way through a painting job. But, A and No2 will probably want their own thing in about 4 years, so this was my time to get my way, while trying to satisfy the PINK fancies of a toddler.
A few pics:
arg - sick of editing this mess and trying to figure out picasa and blogger.
Paint: more than we should have. I apparently gave the man at Lowe's one of the signature (x 2 because I couldn't make my mind up) in semi-glos which might be more costly than wall finish?, plus primer. We have about 75% of the gallon of "Aloe" green left, a gallon of "Hemingway" white, and 1/2 gallon of primer if anyone wants it. Total: about $75 (using only about $15 worth). I guess we can re-do the bathroom with the rest!
Beds, Dresser, Light fixture: free, charity donations compliments of Moretz Packrat Association
Knobs: $8
Bedding: 2 shams, 2 quilts at TJ Maxx: about $75 for both sets. Everything else is old.
Art: at the request of the artist, we were able to make a donation at our discretion to the charity of our choice.

Love it! Keep in mind that the next few years will hold coloring on bed, getting sick on bed (a recent revelation), and plenty of washing. I think something inexpensive was wise. (And cute!)
this turned out so cute!! i absolutely love the light! what a lucky big girl!
So cute. You should put little linen napkins or lace doilies (sp?) sewn together as window toppers. That would be very shaggy chic. I love the room and girls will have so much fun in it. Also, Target has this great bookshelf that is shaped like a big doll house. I have it my girls room and they love it and it looks really cute.
I love it! You should be on HGTV. And "for your FYI" as a friend of mine says, we did not buy the same quilt. Mine has a white background and it a more bright than pastel. I guess we can still be friends. Close call.
Can't wait for the first sleep over!!!!!
It looks great Emily! I am always amazed at your furniture painting expertise.
