Summer Survival Guide

Call me a whimp. May had not even ended before I was complaining about this heat. Granted, I'm a mountain girl (who also complains about the cold), but I'm becoming a believer in global warming, because I don't ever remember it being this hot when I was a kid. And anyone who lives somewhere hotter and wants to comment on my whimpyness and boast that your state is hotter than mine... Don't even go there. Honestly, 95 and 105 are both hot. Add humidity and take away a breeze - it's all the same to me. Perhaps now that I'm a parent, and want my daughter(s) to experience the fun of being outside, collecting snails, riding bikes, running through the sprinkler, etc, I feel the responsibility to encourage this. But seriously - I'm having a hard time mustering it all up to go out. Not to mention that safe outdoor time (esp with a newborn) is limited to the morning and evening hours.

Lord please forgive me that I am complaining about being hot and stuck inside with a precious baby and mostly-cute almost-three-year-old (the latter who is verging on the terrible 3s and crawling up the wall). Despite my attitude right now, I do keep it all in perspective. I know that I am blessed. But I am hot and a bit on the crazy side trying to channel the unhealthy energy of said almost-three year old who may or may not want to use said precious baby as a punching bag. Amen.

Now. I've collected some helpful hints from other moms who are also experiencing cabin fever, with preschool being out and all. Thanks for the suggestions, Facebook friends! I now know what we're doing next week! I'll try to keep this page updated as a come across other events. Maybe by the end of the summer, Adelaide will know some Spanish, overcome her intense phobia of bugs, have no broken bones, and have spent playtime with some of our south Charlotte friends that we don't get to see nearly enough. Who wants to play?

The inserted prayer literally made me LOL! Thanks for just reminding us that we are all feeling the same way and are not bad moms for dreading the pool prep routine-which is typically longer than the actual time spent at the pool! Love you Em!! Wish we lived in the same city...
