I bought a few packs of T-shirts that I was hoping to use for Adelaide's birthday party using this method, but we ran out of time. So I've got lots of t-shirts, paint, and bubble wrap (thanks Uncle D). Bubble wrap painting has taken Pinterest by storm, but I got this idea off of Skip to My Lou. The brain behind this blog is amazing. What a fun mom she must be!
Draw your stencil on the flat side of the bubble wrap. I printed an 'A' off of Word (350 point font), put my paper behind the bubble wrap (bubbles facing down) and used a Sharpie to make my stencil. I cut along the lines. Don't worry about busting your bubbles. :) The deflated bubbles along your borders still show up once painted.
I won't mention how many times and how many neurons I lost trying to make my stencil going in the right direction.
We used a foam paintbrush and craft paint. I just let A go to town painting. I didn't bother with rinsing the brush or anything (in fact, I like the look of the smeared, mixed colors). Not sure how it'll wash yet. I'll let you know.
I placed a shoebox lid up the shirt to protect the paint leaking through to the back side. Carefully place your stencil on the shirt.
Voila!
A and I have been bubble wrap stenciling all kinds of stuff lately and it is such an easy craft that has pretty cool results (if you are a relative or hope-to-be-almost relative, you might just have some bubble wrap art awaiting the mailman).
