Overheard

Lately, Clara has developed a sense of urgency in her gestures and babbling. This is especially true while she awaits her food or milk; she bucks and squeals and waves her hands with the authority of a dictator. Last Saturday at breakfast, our otherwise peaceful time together was interrupted by one of these fits of self-expression and hunger. The following series of "interpretations" transpired, progressing in order around the table.

Clara [squawking with a purpose, arms outstretched at the sides of the high chair tray, stern facial expressions and wiggling to the point I feared she might tip)

Ben: voice low and demanding "The people shall leave the land!"

Emily: "You must listen and obey your leader!"

Adelaide: arms similarly outstretched, similarly stern faced and with a lowered voice and spot-on timing:
"Welcome to Moe's!!"
